// Siento lo mare,
a multi sensory, multi layerd installation //

// ABOUT //

Siento lo *mare is a multi-sensuous artwork that focuses on the physicality of sound and the sound of feel.

This installation is a homage to the art of paying attention to the inconspicuous. The beauty of the unimportance and the pleasure of experience. The greatness of the ocean, the limitlessness of self.

// Concept //

Welcome to my little garden. In the public space of Amare in The Hague, I created an intimate space that allows for a sensory experience. The exhibition area is delineated by a surround installation that lets the music roll in from a distance in waves.

On three screens, each connected with headphones and paired with a feel-box, the visitor is invited to experience three different versions of a multimedia poem featuring arrangements of a violin sonata by Tartini. The composition is marked "siento lo mare" in the manuscript. While the visitor listens to the prerecorded part of the Sonata, they can place their hands in the box and explore the natural items inside. As they do so, the microphones in the box amplify the sounds and send them to the headphones. These live created soundscapes also trigger audio effects like reverb or loudness of the prerecorded music.

Each of the three pillars features an element of the beach and a different aspect of the music in terms of focus and intensity.

To round off the work and create a connection to the exhibition site, there is one (or three, depending on feasibility) screen(s) displaying sensual close-ups of the beach and dunes of The Hague.

Additionally, there are open boxes with related materials (sand, shells) at a lower room level, accessible to children.

This project would not have been possible without the support and collaboration of many individuals. Special thanks to Gregor Conelly for audio programming, Vincent Nier for recording, Simone Sacci for technical support, and Renne Jonker.
